When it came time to decide what I would do for a senior project at FSU, I was given the idea to turn one of my favorite bands, The Dear Hunter, into a staged production. Fast forward a few months and permission was granted not only by those at the university, but also Casey Crescenzo himself. What seemed like an amazing idea has blossomed into the makings of an actual production.
My goal is to present The Dear Hunter in a manner that has never before been seen. I wish to give the theatrical and moving music of Act II a theatrical life. In this process, I hope that others will be introduced to a band -and quite possibly a genre- they would have otherwise missed. Concept albums are so very close to being put to death by pop singles, and storytelling in music is becoming a thing of the past. I'd like to see a rebirth in appreciation and support for these artists, so that they may continue to create.
I have chosen to take Act II and turn it into a production by itself because it seems to me to be the most self contained of the albums. While it would be entertaining to present my favorite songs from the band, I want this project to be an actual production, not simply a musical review.
